Famous Movie Monologues-Women
One of the
Famous Movie Monologues-Women
was chosen because we all related to the line that followed (delivered by Rob Reiner's mom): "I'll have what she's having."
Sally (Meg Ryan) WHEN HARRY MET SALLY
One because it leads into the monologue everybody remembered - which was delivered by the
guy.
Annie (Susan Sarandon) BULL DURHAM
One because it challenged the actress to convey raw grief in the middle of a comedy.
M'Lynn (Sally Field) STEEL MAGNOLIAS
TEST
And the monologue from PRIVATE BENJAMIN? Well, that just makes us laugh.
Whatever made these famous movie monologues memorable, the fact remains that they were first written, then directed, then spoken.
So, we've included the names of the directors and screenwriters (along with a couple of their credits).
Maybe you'll discover a few more monologues that aren't so famous but just as well-written - and perfect for you.

To your success... scene by scene...
THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT - Heather Donahue (playing herself) is lost in the woods and speaks what may be her final words. Call it drama, docudrama – whatever. Because this movie was shot on a shoestring and made millions (largely because this monololgue appeared in the trailer), this movie and this monologue are definitely famous. Directed and written by Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez (CURSE OF THE BLAIR WITCH).
(Quotes from THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT)
PRIVATE BENJAMIN – Judy (Goldie Hawn) marches in the rain and longs for her old life. Directed by Howard Zieff. Written by Nancy Meyers (SOMETHING’S GOTTA GIVE), Harvey Miller (PROTOCOL), and Charles Shyer (ALFIE (2004)).
(Quotes from PRIVATE BENJAMIN)
PASSION FISH – In this famous movie monologue, actress Nina (Nancy Mette) describes a audition and begins with the line: "I didn't ask for the anal probe."
Written and directed by John Sayles (LONE STAR, SUNSHINE STATE, RETURN OF THE SECAUCUS 7), PASSION FISH is a wonderful film which includes several challenging (and comedic) roles for women. We're not going to link to the entire text of this monologue here (although you can find it on the web if you look hard enough). Instead, do yourself a favor and buy John Sayles's screenplay. That way, you get the monologue, all those other great parts to play with, and more fabulous writing by John Sayles.
(Quotes from PASSION FISH)

STEEL MAGNOLIAS – M’Lynn (Sally Field) just wants to hit something. Robert Harling (SOAPDISH, FIRST WIVES CLUB) wrote this wonderful
play
and screenplay based on the women in his home town. Directed by Herbert Ross.
(Quotes from STEEL MAGNOLIAS)
WHEN HARRY MET SALLY - Sally (Meg Ryan) sets Harry (Billy Crystal) straight about orgasms. Directed by Rob Reiner. Written by Nora Epron (HEARTBURN, SILKWOOD).
(Quotes from WHEN HARRY MET SALLY)
BULL DURHAM – Everybody remembers the Kevin Costner monologue; but if this monologue by Annie (Susan Sarandon) isn't famous, it should be. Ron Shelton (WHITE MEN CAN'T JUMP, BAD BOYS II) got an Academy Award® nomination for his screenplay. Shelton also directed the film.
