EXT. COMMUNITY CENTER PARKING LOT-NIGHT
Linda Jenkins and Edie Jerome talk as they exit the building. They huddle together as they walk through the parking lot.

LINDA

Girl, we're sounding pretty good.

EDIE

No thanks to that microphone hog,
Esther. She thinks she's something
else when she ain't nothing but a
talentless diva.

LINDA

Now, Edie-

EDIE
I'm not saying anything that ain't
 the truth, Sister Jenkins. Her
caterwauling don't praise or please
 the Lord none.

LINDA
(laughing)
Sister, if you can't say nothing
 nice-

EDIE
Calling that unholy woman a diva is
 being nice.

LINDA
(laughing)
Edie, you need to stop.

The two women approach a car. Linda waits on the passenger side as Edie walks around to the driver's side.

EDIE
I'll stop when someone sits that
busybody down and- Oh, my dear Lord!

Edie jumps back in shock, her eyes wide as she looks at something on the ground. Linda hurries around to her side.

LINDA
Sister, what is it!

Linda gasps as she sees thirty-two-year-old Carrie McDonald sprawled against the wall next to the car, a bullet hole in her chest.
